Do Not Try This Online

As a smart cookie, it’s important to use the latest resources and tools while you get ahead with your finances. We couldn’t help but get lost in this month’s issue of Money Magazine‘s guide to best sites online to help you save you money. There are numerous resources that are worth checking out but even more interesting was the list of sites to steer clear of.

Freecreditreport.com

Turns out, you may end up paying an automatic charge of $14.95 a month for your credit report. Well, that’s not free at all!

Yahoo! Finance Message Boards

The advice on this site does not come from financial experts. What you’ll end up hearing is a lot of hype. A better option is Bogleheads.org which has many professionals participating in the discussion.

E-Bay Car Purchases

This is actually happening online! People are purchasing non-local vehicles without seeing, let alone test-driving them first. If you really need to purchase online, at least hire a mechanic of your choosing that is in the same city as the vehicle to go inspect the car in person for you.

We don’t mean to scare you from using online tools – we love them! Just be wary, some sites will try to take advantage. Good thing us cookies stay together!
