Food certified under federal agriculture regulations promises natural food products, produced without synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. But not all organic foods are created equal. Here are the top fruits and vegetables that aren’t worth your organic dollar investment.
Bananas
Organic bananas can cost as much 30 cents more per lb. than non organic brands. But because of their think peel, the majority of pesticide traces will lost once the banana peel is removed.
Mangos, Papaya and Avocados
Due to their thick skin, these fruits are protected from pesticides. Make sure to wash thoroughly before eating, but any traces of pesticides from these non organic options are very minimal.
Asparagus and Broccoli
These vitamin rich veggies faces fewer threats from pests and therefore require minimal amounts of pesticides. So opting for an organic option is likely not worth your dollars.
