It might not be the best time to ask your manager for a raise, but your achievements at work are more valuable than ever and maybe worthy of compensation of a different kind. If you can’t ask for extra cash, learn what you can ask for, and how to ask for it “ it’s worth the conversation.
How sweet would an extra week of vacation be? Asking for extra time off is completely fair, especially when cash is tight for employers. The key is give your employer plenty of advance notice if you are planning on asking for extra time off. Also, before you speak to your manager, be prepared to present your plan that will show your work will be completely covered while you’re away.
Expenses covered. What if you didn’t have to pay for your cell phone, or driving expenses? If your employers is willing to cover some or all of those expenses for you, you could have hundreds of dollars a month. Any extra money in your pocket is always worth the ask.
A change in job title. If you’ve earned a raise, but your company doesn’t have the cash flow to pay the salary associated with your promotion, it is still valuable for your resume and for your career, to take the job title. Be mindful to keep written record of your accomplishments with your new title, so that when things do turn around you have a good case to go back to your manager and request your deserved salary.
