How to Save on High Maintenance High Heels

There is nothing worse than going to grab your favorite pair of pumps from the closet and realizing the heels are worn down to a sharp metal rod ( down to the nub, as we like to say ). As smart, but not so handy cookies, we thought the only option for shoe salvation was taking them to the cobbler. But we learned that a simple DIY method can save time and money and get our favorite shoes back in working condition in no time flat. Here’s how to get started:
Step 1.- Getting Started
Do an audit of your shoe closet and pull out any of the heels that are worn down with just 2-3 mm or have signs of the metal stiletto rod showing.
Check out local retailers like Wal-Mart or your local shoe repair as a resource to buy heel tip replacements. You can also purchase online at sites like newheeltips.com or ebay.com
Next, measure and jot down the size of the heel tips from each pair of shoes you are replacing. Sites like www.dancehappy.com offer a variety of different sized heel tips for just $7 including shipping and handling.
Then borrow or buy a set of pliers and a hammer and get ready to work some shoe heel magic.
Step 2: Time to DIY
Flip your shoes heel side up and use your pliers to pull out the damaged heel tips.
Match your shoe to the correct sized heel tip and take the pliers and remove the nail that remains in the heel. It may take a little force but keep pulling until the nail is removed.
Once you have the old nail out, align the nail of the heel tip and take a hammer to pound in the new heel tip until it is flush with the heel.
